Connections to the World #2
This book also reminds me of "Burned" another book by Ellen Hopkins. In "Burned" the main character Pattyn witnesses abuse in her home just like Kaeleigh. These are similar because Kaeleigh is abused by her father and Pattyn's father is also the abuser. They're different because Kaeleigh is abused by her father, but in "Burned" it's usually Pattyn's mother. Pattyn's father does graduate to abusing Pattyn and her sisters but it's mostly her mother that suffers her fathers rage. In "Identical" Kaeleigh is successful in escaping her father when he's put away and she's left in the care of her long lost grandmother. But in "Burned" Pattyn is unsuccessful in escaping the problems she faces.
